RDG comments on police inspectorate's report on British Transport Police
Commenting on the HMIC’s inspection report into the British Transport Police, Gary Cooper, Director of Planning, Engineering and Operations at the Rail Delivery Group, which brings together train companies and Network Rail to enable a better railway, said:
“Rail is one of the safest ways to travel, with the long-term trend showing a large decrease in crime. As we better connect communities across Britain, we are working together ever closer with our partners to prevent crime and keep safe those who use our stations and trains, and those at risk of causing harm to themselves.
“This inspection covered efficiency, legitimacy and leadership issues and we support the report’s findings. We want the BTP to be as effective as it can be and meet or exceed the standards of other forces in these areas, for the benefit of our customers, staff and railway neighbours. To make these improvements the BTP needs to improve its capability to forecast and deal with demand for its services on today’s and tomorrow’s railway. We are working with the British Transport Police Authority and the BTP to assist on this journey.
