RDG responds to IMechE report on investment in rail capacity
Responding to the Institution of Mechanical Engineers' report on increasing capacity on Britain's railway, Paul Plummer, Chief Executive of the Rail Delivery Group, representing train operators and Network Rail, said:
“We welcome the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ support for investment in Britain’s railway, the safest in Europe.
“The £50bn Railway Upgrade Plan is already bringing wide-ranging benefits, removing bottlenecks across the network to address the capacity crunch and introducing more punctual and more frequent trains.
“With many parts of the rail network increasingly full, initiatives such as the Digital Railway will be vital in releasing extra capacity to support future rail growth and reduce disruption. Cross-industry collaboration will be vital in bringing forward this plan as efficiently and quickly as possible.”
